The appointment of sixteen came, as a surprise. It was anticipated they would be limited to ten. The new appointments give the Government over 20 supporters in the Council. N S.W. PARLIAMENT. SYDNEY, August 30 The State Parliament opened with the usual ceremonial. The Governor, in his speech said the country was passing through a period of economic adjustment, hut there-was an indication that normal conditions, so tar as Australia was concerned, were be ing gradually regained. The speech declared that Mr Storey’s visit to London had resulted in enhancing the New South Wales financial stability there. The success of the Premier’s mission would be ajpparent in the unproved financial arrangements which the State would he unable to make. New legislation foreshadowed include Endowment to Motherland, Amendment to tile Lunacy Act, establishment of Government Insurance office.
