LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL, j (Reroived This Day at 10.15 a.in.) j SYDNEY, Aug. 31. j The six additional nominees to the Legislative Council were selected by the' Premier. The appointment of sixteen came, as a surprise. It was anticipated they would be limited to ten. The new appointments give the Government over 20 supporters in the Council. N S.W. PARLIAMENT. SYDNEY, August 30 The State Parliament opened with the usual ceremonial. The Governor, in his speech said the country was passing through a period of economic adjustment, hut there-was an indication that normal conditions, so tar as Australia was concerned, were be ing gradually regained. The speech declared that Mr Storey’s visit to London had resulted in enhancing the New South Wales financial stability there. The success of the Premier’s mission would be ajpparent in the unproved financial arrangements which the State would he unable to make. New legislation foreshadowed include Endowment to Motherland, Amendment to tile Lunacy Act, establishment of Government Insurance office. Amendment of the Early Closing and Liquor Acts It also promised that economy , will be the kevnote of administration, j SYDNEY, August 30. I The- Government lias appointed 16 •. new members from over 200 aspirants to the Legislative Council, ten of whom were selected by the Australian Labour Party ballot, including a brother of Premier Storey and a brother of Mr McGirr, Minister of Health, the remainder being well know nLabour men..
