OBITUARY. CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 29. W. B. Clarkson, well-known in commercial and sporting circles, and member of the meat export firm of W. B. Clarkson and Sons; aged 43 years, after a short illness. Among the horses he was interested in were Clean Sweep, tlie winner of the last Winter Cup and the pacer Emilias, winner of one of the chief races at Addington this month. A SHOCKING DEATH.' NEW PLYMOUTH, Aug. 29 A shocking accident occurred at Lopporton. Junction on Saturday night. A man named Joseph Flqteher, whose father resides at Liu wood, Christchurch, fell between the carriages of a moving train. Both legs were almost severed. He was removed to the Hospital where lic> did on Sunday morning. ' A KISSING ASSAULT. GREYMOUTH. Aug. 29 Thomas Britt, aged 49. with no fixed abode, was convicted at the Magistrate’s Court with assaulting n girl aged 11, b v kissing her. The incident occurred at Arntika on tlie evening of | August 22nd. Tlie c hild was seized by j defendant, who had been drinking, and kissed several times on the cheek. He was sentenced in 1 I days’ imprisonment.
