HIGH COAL AIISST ONER ’ S REPORT. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated August 20, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London : -MEAT. There is no material alteration except that the lamb market is weaker and the tendency downwards. Alutton, no change in price, but trade dull. Beef, more tone to the market early this week, hut owing to tlte return owarm weather demand is not good. Present quotations are:—New Zealand mutton, light-weight 8 l-.‘3d, heavyweight (iff cl) ewes 5Jd ; New Zealand lamb, light-weight, Is Ifjd, heavyweight 11 Jd ; New Zealand beef, prime ox, this season’s, hinds (id to 6.Jd fores 3ffd ; New Zcaalnd beef, last season’s, hinds o.Jd, fores 3UI ; Argentine chilled, hinds Is, fores (id. Government ewes have been sold to English firms. Arrangements have been made for a nominated agent to distribute a percentage of them. It is understood that tDo jtrice is 4,kl per !b. RUTTER. The demand continues fair «jid recent advances are maintained. Very little English is available and Irish is in poor request. Quotations are:—Danish, firm Ini quiet, 2GBs per ewt (2s 4;|d per ID) ■ New Zealand, first and second grade 2(ils to 2G(is per ewt (2s 4*,d to 2s 4} d per Hi); Australian, first grade 217 s to 2IBs per ew t <2s 2Jd to 2s 2;}d [ter lb), first and second grade together 24.3 s to 2i7s per ew t >2s 2d to 2s 2UI per lb), unsalted *24Ss to 252 s per ewt (2s 2.U1 to 2s 3d per lb) ; Australian tree, 220 s to 2255 p or ewt (Is 11 Jd to 2s per lb); Argentine, salted and nnsaltod, 215 s tr 233 s per ewt (Is lid to 2s Id per lb); Argentine, free, 218 sto 230 s per ewt (Is 11 Id to 2s o£d per lb). Government ex store price—New Zealand, 2(12s Australian 2455, 242 s and 2475; Argentine, 225 s [K'r ewt. CHEESE. The market is quieter. English supplies are very short. Finest la: aw is quoted at Rifs to 108 s per ewt D Aid to Is (id per lb): Canadian, whit--134s to 138 s, coloured 132 sto 1345: New Zealand, white 134 s to 138, coloured 130 sto 1345; Australian, white 120 s to 12(55, coloured 120 s to 12os per ewt. HEMP. Manila was in better demand early this week, hut quieter at the close. “.1” grade August-* letoher shipment sold at l'3B per ton. Sellers’ present quotations are : June-August to August-! htober shipments £37 15s per toil. Piiilippne authorities have * prohibited grading alter the end of thi v month of to “M.” So far the market lias not been atlceted, the teeling being that supplies of spot and a Hunt, plus amount graded, will he sufficient tot some time. The Manila output January I to Augiisi 15 was 402,000 bales, against, 743,000 hales last year, and this production appears sufficient tor the world’s present consumption. For New Zealand there is a hotter inquiry, hut ,Jl'ers are scarce. Present quotations aiv : Sellers, high-pouits £37 10* per ton; buyers, fair £3l to £3l 10s pelton. August-!letoher shipment. Stocks in Great Briain on July 31 were 082 tons against 172 tons last year. WOOL. At Bradford an improved tone is maintained, due to the hotter oxpoit trade.
