All the speakers who took part in the civic welcome to Use Hon. Downie Stewart, at Nelson, made sympnthie reference to the state of the Ministers health, as the result of his war ser\i, e, and he hope was generally expressed that he would soon he completely restored to health. In thanking t various speakers lor their kindly remarks, Mr Downie Stewart made his illness the sulijeoit of a couple of stories. lie said ho had just been asked to address them sitting down. He was still somewhat weak in the knees, and he had made this excuse recently at a meeting clown south. However, one of the audience interjected: “You need not make that excuse; all politienns arcweak kneed” (laughter). The Minislei Inter on told a story of a member ot the House who was constantly interjecting. The Speaker, who turned < n him. told him that lie did all his talking lying down. .“Well,” returned the ether, who was lying full length in his seat, “You do all your lying standing up.” “And so.” said the Minister, when tho laughter had’ subsided, ‘i think T will do my talking standing up.”
