From Ladies’ Literary Society stating . the sale of work would be held in aid i of the funds in December.- Received - with thanks. * From Caledonian Society forwarding - a further account in connection with r concert.—Received and approved. j ‘ From Hon. The. funds in hand were £7!> 17s Gd. —Received. GENERAL. The Chairman said there was now some difficulty about -ccuriug the Drill Shed for dances, and the Civil Service benefit was in abeyance. He thorn ht that, under all the circumstances as the Association intended to renovate the war niemorials, it would be possible to secure the Drill Shed. The Chairman reported in regard to the improvements to Cass Square, and said the weather had been delaying iiie work. The pickets to repair the fences would be ready immediately, i.ud ti.c specifications for the painting wo. Id be available this week. Received and adopted. f Mr Carter mentioned the vandalism t C"s; Square where the fence was being wantonly destroyed. The matter of attention to the Pioneers Memorial was mentioned, and Mr Boyd’s work praised, ft was resolved to draw the attention of tlm police to the continued damage done to the chains. It was also decided to have the ■ lettering on the Pioneers Memorial rcgilded. The Chairman stated some work was necessary in regard to the South Afri- . can memorial. It was decided to ask the Borough Council to have the recently arrived war ( trophy placed in Cass Square or other suitable place. _ The Chairman said Pollards' Picture would give a benefit for the funds at an early date.- Received with npprova|. J Mr Wild referred Co the unsightly fences about some of the sections in the town. It was resolved to bring the matter under the notice of the Borough Council. Mr Davidson brought up the ques- 1 tion of tree-planting in Fitzherbert, F Hampden, and Stafford Streets. Be J suggested a deputation to the Borough Council to discuss the matter. Tin- Chairman said the Reserves Committee of the Council had an excellent 1 ( scheme in mind in regard to Hampden and Stafford streets, Messrs Davidson Preston, Boyd and Carter were appointed a sub-citnniill.cc to wait on the ; Council. ' The proceedings closed with the read- 1 ing of the paper cm Hokitika (published elsewhere) by Mr D. J. Evans. At the close of the paper Hon Michel 1 moved a very hearty thanks to Mr 1 Evans for the splendid paper, appreciating the tribute paid to the fine type 1: of pioneer officials who helped to lay v the foundations of the town. Messrs Wild, Davidson and others " supported tdio motion which was carried with acclamation. It was resolved to ask that the paper be printed m pamphlet form and circulated.
