LONDON, August 23. iho “Daily Express" Pans correspondent scales the police there are engaged in •‘reconstruction ’ work to elucidate a strange murder mystery. An ..ngler fished out from tile river Seine two beautifully shaped arms, which had been hacked off' from a body at the shoulder. A day later another angler found two legs and finally the headless body of a young girl was found. The remains were taken to the morgue lor the assembly of the scattered remain. So far there is no clue « s to the identity of the body or its murderer. . By a curious coincidence, a similar series of Jack the ltipper crimes is reported from Berlin, where the bodies of two women were found in the liver Spree, making a total of five discovered in the last few dajs. A butcher named Carl Crossman, was arrested in the act of battering an aged woman to death while she was lying in a bed, bound and gagged. The police later found evidence connecting Crossman with other atrocities. Among the police discoveries was a trunk which had been used to carry away the bodies of the victims. IMPORTANT INVENTION. - LONDON, August 22. The “Daily Chronicle” states: The tests of Mr L. Brenan’s new invention the Heliocopter, continue to progress satisfactorily at Farnboorugh, though the machine is still in its experimental staae. Elaborate precautions are taken to °keep th e results of the trials a secret. Tims far the trials have been conducted under cover, but’ it is understood that open air flights will shortly be attempted. NEW HEBRIDES. LONDON, August 22. Mr Hughes while in France, eu route home, will discuss with the French Government the future of the New Hebrides. The British authorities have commissioned him to conduct negotiations. After discussion by a committee of the Imperial Conference, Mr Hughes to-day met Mr Lambert representing the Colonial Office, regarding the details.
