(BY TELEGRAPH—PER PRESS ASSOCIATION] • REFUSAL OF ARMOUR’S' LICENSE. U.S.A. PROTEST TO ENGLAND, j WASHINGTON, Aug. 18. ' The United States State Department has made representations to the British Government on the subject of New Zealand’s refusal to grant the Armour Australasian Company a license to export meat to Britain. Tlie representations made intimate that New Zealand had ascribed greater weight, than the United States Government did, io the American Trade Commission’s allegations that the Armour firm of America had indulged in unfair practices. It is further stated that the Australasian Armour Company is not connected with the American concern ; also that the Dominion’s action is inconsistent with the granting of permission to export to the United States and also that it involved a discriminating action towards the important interests of a friendly nation. NEW SERBIAN KING. BELGRADE, Aug 18 Prince Alexander, of Serbia, has been proclaimed King. He was unable to attend his father’s funeral, as he was undergoing an operation for appendicitis.
