Aug. 18 Reports from Katowitz state there are prospects of a reconciliation between the contending parties in tipper Silesia; This is indicated hv the result of a conference of the leading German industrialists with representatives of the Polish parties, at which it is believed, an agreement was readied to co-operate in the* interests of Silesia. i _ ANOTHER SILESIAN FIGHT. HER UN. Aug. 17. A violent fight occurred between Germans and Poles in the frontier villages of Sternalitz and Kosterlitz. The former, using grenades, drove the Poles over the frontier. Twenty-four Poles were killed. BRITISH FORCES IN SILESIA. # LONDON, Aug. 18 The “.Morning Post” says it understands the British Government has declared its willingness to dispatch two more battalions of troops to Upper Silesia, conditionally on France and Italy reinforcing similarly. THE SUPREME COUNCIL. (Received This Dav at 9.40 a.m PARIS, Aug. 18. M. Briand, interviewed, stated those who criticised the Supreme Council’s decisions forget or ignore that if Great Britain, Italy and Japan expressed an opinion diametrically opposed to that Franco it would mean the bankrupts? of the Supreme Council. Germany is only awaiting such a signal to occupy Upper Silesia, which she could do according to the Treaty. Me avoided much trouble by referring the question to the League of Nations. It will he dealt with much quicker than the people think.
