HOKITIKA BOWLING CLUB.

The annual meeting was held last evening in the Pavilion at 7 o’clock, the President (Mr R. S. Galbraith) occupying the chair, with an attendance of a dozen members. The minutes of the previous annual meeting were read and confirmed and co i respomlenee reccived. ANNUAL REPORT. Your Committee has pleasure in submitting to you its report for the season 1920-1921, and balance sheet showing the position of the club’s finances resulting from the season’s operations. It has been customary, in past years, to hold the annual general meeting of mem hers early in tho month of October, but this practice has been departed from this year at the request of the Association, whose desire it is that affiliated dubs should hold their respective annual meetings prior to the date of the annual meeting of the Association delegates. The meeting of delegates will Ik? held on the 18th inst (to-morrow). It will he seen by a perusal of the balance sheet that the deficit at tho general account to-day stands at L'.'l 9s 5(1, while on the 30th September last it was €371 14s lOd, a difference of €59 5s sd. This reduction, it should be pointed out, is due very largely to the lively interest taken in the Club’s affairs during the season under review, by the ladies. As an outcome of their efforts, assisted by members, the sum of €lO 13s Id was netted at the competitions arranged and carried out by them, while a further sum of €8 17s (id was obtained from refreshments provided by them. The amount spout in the upkeep of the green was again kept as low as possible, being €2O Os Id. The good results achieved for so small an expenditure could not however, have been realised except for the voluntary efforts of members in the preparation and care of the green prior to and during the early weeks of the playing season and again at the close of the season. .Seeing that, on this occasion, the annual meeting is being held before the September balance reference should perhaps lie made to the fact that there will be a further charge for interest on the bank overdraft amounting approximately to £lO so that the operation for ('• full year to t.he 30th September will disclose an improvement financially o! approximately €SO which may he increased materially by the collection ol a number of outstanding subscriptions. Members of this Club who attended the Association’s annual tournament held at Greynioiith last year, speak very highly of the very efficient manner in which the tournament, was conducted, the perfect condition to which the green had been brought, and generally as to the happy way in which the whole meeting was conducted by (lie Association’s officials, the gathering having proved a most enjoyable one from evert point of view. While dealing with this subject it should be plan'd on record Unit, this club was well represented at the tournament and that one ol its rinks secured the position ol “runner up” in the rinks competition, being unbeaten, except in the final match against a Westport rink. The Association’s tournament this year falls lo the Hokitika Club whose responsibility it is to hand the green over to the Association on the opening day in perfect order for the competitions. Tho Committee therefore recommends that the Ground Committee 1 -- urged to commence the preparation ol the green early so that it may be in the best possible condition lor the Tournament. The local championship matches again . provided souk' keen competitions. Hu* honour, on this occasion, tell to Mr Naldcr who competed in the final see- ( lion with Messrs Bain, Wilson (V.) and t Benjamin, the last-named being the , “runner up.” Mr Nafiler. who haplayed very ((insistently tor years, wer | deserves the ilionor lie won. | Some repairs will he required to the , planking round the green, which, in f pans lias become decayed and is break- r ing away. , !l is recommended that a small sub- j committee be set up lo examine the | Pavilion and to report as to necessary repairs i<> the roof, which shows signs ol baking, and to the verandah and steps. | The question of repainting should al*> , be considered. The question of cost in } ibis connection might be a matter lor _ investigation of the sub-commit tee. In conclusion your committee desires • main to refer lo the marked improvenicnt in the linances ol the club and to . urge that consideration he given to the advisability of immediately deciding to promote another Gala, to lie held eail.v in (be season, so that every opportunity may lie taken in the meant ime for providing and procuring provisions lor the several stalls etc. The cordial thanks of the Club an ,|ue to the ladies for the very material assistance given in tho season under review and to tile Club’s officials. The balance sheet was also read. On the motion of Messrs Bruce and Bishop tin' report and balance sheet were received and adopted. Tic following new members were elected Messrs J. B. Ward, Urquhnrt.
