[by TELEGRAPH —PER PRESS ASSOCIATION] MAORI* GIRLS ACT. CAMBRIDGE, August 17. Yesterday afternoon a Maori girl, 15 years of age ; committed suicide by shooting herself through the chest with a double-barrelled gun. The girl was a milk-maid, engaged by a Maori farmer at M&takohfl, Pnkekora, near Cambridge It is thought that the deed was done in a fit of anger. UP FOR SENTENCE. CHRISTCHURCH, August 17. John Daniels convicted at "Westport of sending a. false telegram was brought up for sentence at the Supreme Court this morning. Justice Herdman said the rase was not one for leniency. ‘ • was clear the prisoner had made up his mind to live the life of a criminal. He was sentenced to two years hard labour.
