There was no appearance of the Union Assessors and the matter was referred to the Court. Mr Newton (Commissioner) expressed regret at the Union’s decision not to ho represented and hoped that a short time would seo a different view. A YOUNG MAN’S DEATH. WAI M ATE. Aug. 1(5 .John Joseph Kane, a young man, died at Redd iff.s last night. It is reported that he .had been drinking heavily. A post mortem has been ordered. FOUND DROWNED. , DANNEVIRKE, Aug. 16. Catherine McLeod, aged 52 single, residing at Matamau with her father, was found! drowned in the stream close to the residence She had been despondent lately. It is not known bow she got into the water. The body was in night attire.
