The monthly meeting of the Westland Progress League takes at the County Chambers to-night at 7.30 o’clock. The ferry steamer missed connection at Christchurch this morning, hut the mails were sent on bv motor ear to catch the West Coast express. In connection with opening of Rua(aj)ii Hall on Wednesday next, a motor lorry will leave the Clock tower at 6.30 p.m. for Buatapu. County Chairman, who purposes going’’south on Wcdm day of next week, will visit Hari Hari on the afternoon of that day (24th. inst) and be available to meet the settlers in the evening. On Thursday Okarito and Waiho Gorge are to be visited. The following day the party will ride through to Welieka- and visit Fox Glacier. On Saturday the party returns north visiting Watnroa in the afternoon and spending the night there. The Chairman will return via Waitaha Settlement the following day. Mr Bowel I, of Timaru, who wa s appointed conductor of the Greymouth Municipal Rand, has notified the band that he will be unable to fulfill his engagement. The intention of the band is to appoint Mr Lovett, who was one o' the other applicants, who is at present residing in Greymouth. Mr Lovett is an accomplished euphonium and clarionet player, and has had considerable experience with the baton. He was for several years a member of the Royal Marine Band, of England. VTo-morrow (Wednesday) evening, the j*ain and fancy dress ball takes place a, the opening function of Albert Hall Buatapu, and the gathering promises to be a very successful one. Fancy dresses are the vogue this year and there will be many displayed to-morrow evening. The music is of the best, and the general arrangements are reported to be very complete. Motor lorries will run from Hokitika to-morrow evening.
