FAREWELL SOCIAL.
(Contributed). A farewell social took place at Humphreys on Saturday night last, tendered by the residents of Aralmra to hid tin revoir to Mr and Mrs W. Wilson, who are leaving that part of ihe district. Mr B. Ward (County Chairman) presided. and briefly outlined the career of the departing guests. He said lie had known Mr Wilson from his boyhood and he was the son of worthy parents at whose home he had always received the greatest hospitality. Mr Wilson’s late father had been one of the promoters of the Arahura Dairy factory and had done his utmost tor the advancement of the district. Since the lute Mr Wilson’s demise, Ids son William had carried on where his lather had left. oil'. Then Mr Wilson took unto himself a wife whose parents were also well known to the speaker. Their daughter. Mrs Wilson, alter leaving school chose the profession of nurse the noblest calling in the world. There was scarcely a home in Humphreys in which she had,not lent her aid, and was always willing to run away at a moment’s notice to tend the sick. No doubt, the residents of Humphreys would sadly miss Mrs Wilson. Mr Ward on behalf of the people ol Aralmra. wished the departing ones a Inline lilc of happiness and prosperity. Mr Hewlett then handed to Mr and Airs Wilson a handsome eiderdown counterpane and hearthrug, and to Ihi by Wilson a gold safety clasp, trusting they would he received in the same good spirit ill which they were given us a small token of the esteem and regard in which they wove held m the district. The audience then sang very lustily “Poi' they are jolly good fellows, at the conclusion of which Mr Wilson on behalf of himself and wife thanked the people for the gifts presented ; also for the kind remarks and for the pleasant evening they had provided. Dancing was kepi up with a good swing until almost midnight. Ihe niuiic was supplied b,v Mrs TTarcmut und an extra by Miss Olson. Messrs Adams and Bernhard faithfully discharged the onerous duties of M. . * A varied programme of songs was given by Miss Sherri If, Messrs Ward, Rernhard, Bradley, Moharry. MeQuilkin. und a humourous sketch hv Mastei jack Ward. A liberal supply of ref resliments were handed round, and altogether a happy evening was spent despite the snowy weather. The social was brought to a close. » the singing of the good old Scotch ballad “Anld Lang Syne.”
