At tlio inquest regarding the death of Thomas Thaw Young, of Dunedin, master tailor, who died at the hospital, the evidence showed that deceased was on his way north on a health trip. The Coroner found that the cause of death was rupture of tho stomach, duo to perforation, which was followed by peritonitis. An inquest was also held on Edward Simpson, who was found dead on the reclamation ground on July 30th. The coroner’s verdict was that death wu s due to an irritant poison, in all probability, self-administered. ANOTHER MOTOR FATALITY. AUCKLAND, Aug. 11. Mrs 0. E. Aider ton, aged 60, <f Rcumera, died in the hospital as the result of a motor accident in Renmera road. She alighted from a tram and went round the back of the car, and was then struck by a motor on the other set of rails. She succumbed an hour later. FOUND DEAD. DUNEDIN. Aug. 11. I Thomas Alexander Dale, a single re- | turned soldier, was found dead this ! evening at the cellar of the Excelsior Hotel. He evidently mistook his way and entered tho bottle cellar down a I right-of-way, where he was found sitting with his head between his legs in a stooping position. QUESTION OF FINANCE. WELLINGTON, Aug. 13 The Dominion Council of the R.S.A recently set up a committee to considci the question of soldier unemployment proposals, formulated to create new capital out of the savings of the people and to use this to carry on necessary public works, particularly iliydro-olec-tric schemes. To this end it was suggested that measures be taken to in crease the sale of post office investment ccrtilicates. The committee sent it proposals to the Government: and luu received a reply that it cannot see its way to adopt them. It is not considered possible to compete by means of pos office certificates with the present higi rates of interest, nor docs the Government care about inviting investmentwhich will result in tin accumulatini payable in one sum at a lixed period It urges that the post office savings hank itself is the surest, safest and cheapest mode of investment of public savings. , .MAORI RIGBY. WELLINGTON. Aug. 13 A movement on foot to form a Xe" Zealand Maori Rugby Union, will be submitted to the New Zealand Union Tlie idea is to create a competition exclusively for natives. A shield lias already been donated for the conqietition open to any Maori team. As an alter native to the X.Z. I'nion governing the competition, it is suggested that a .Maori I'nion should take charge. The movement originated in Rnugitikci and Wanganui districts and the office bearers suggested arc all from that locality, ■ with Rangi Maimnani of Rata, as Pro sident.
