POLLARD’S TICTURES. TWO BIG FEATURES MONDAY. Oil Monday noxt Pollards are screening an extra special double star programme beaded by “My Lady’s Garber, ’’ a Maurice Tourneur production, with Wyndham Standing and Sylvia Breamcr in five breathless acts ol wildly exciting adventure. The second is a comedy drama by Selyznick, also five acts, entitled “The Flapper,” starring the lieautiful Olive Thomas. Jacques Futrelle, one of the heroes of the illfated Titanic, left behind a novel ot international fame, “My Lady’s Garter,” which has been adapted under the samo title to picture production by Maurice Tourneur, the master director. “My Lady’s Garter” is a mystery story concerning the efforts of a secret service man to trap a master criminal whose alias' is “The Hawk.” “The Hawk” is finally brought to justice, but not before Wymlham Standing, as the detective, and Sylvia Broamer, as the girl, arc involved in many exciting adventures which end in a romance. Mr Tourneur’s skill in weaving scenes of this sort of a story into just the l ight tempo is too wellknown to need iurthei comment. The dramatic worth of Mr Flit re lie’s novel is unquestioned and tlie cast selected to enact it is ideal. The features, exciting and thrilling to the extreme, will furnish an evening 01 genuine entertainment to all who like mvsterv story at its best.
“THE-MOLLUSC.” Miss Rosemary Rees, who brought her own company of English and Australian odists to New Zealand, will lie introduced to the public of Hokitika at the Princess Theatre on Wednesday, 1/th Aug. The Company "ill appear in “The Mollusc.” Rosemary Rees lias won her position in the theatrical sphere of London and throughout- the world as a leading actress and playwright. Miss Rees has many successful ploys to her credit, and her coined' ••Uncle Bill” holds a record as it- has been presented at three London theatres, the Globe, the Vaudeville, and the Coloseum. Rosemary Rees first sup ported many famous stars, including Fanny Brough, Mrs Brown Rotter. ami Mrs Lewis Waller. Fm the laslnamed site wrote a play wliicli is still on tour. Rising to stardom, Mi is Roes played in many groat successes including “The Ever Open Door. TB< Education of Elizabeth,” “The Third Degree,” and “Lady 11 tint wort It’s Ex periment.” Harold Moran, who is placing Tom Kemp (the part, in he Mollusc originally played by .lulm Knight at the Aldwyeh, London, with Rosemary Rees) has refused a most tempting offer to star in L.S.A. in order to remain for a few months longei with the Rosemary Rees Comedy Company. The part of Tom Kemp, full of breezy humour, is particularly suited to Mr Moran’s personality and his performance is charmingly natural and sincere, and at the same time intensely amusing.
