FIRE AT GREYMOUTH
OUTBREAK IN HIGH STREET. (Grey Argus.) A fire broke out last night in High street, in the nine-roomed residence ol Mi- Oxford, collector of Customs, not far from the Recreation Ground. It started in a back room, where in some unknown way a wardrobe became ignited. There was only a young girl at home at the time, but when the alarm was given prompt action was taken by the Fire Brigade, several members living nearby getting out the gear in readiness for the arrival of the main hotly from the Fire -Station. The fire then had got a hold of the, ceiling, and the iron roof showed a glow, but with a generous application of water the brigade soon got a grip of the outI break and extinguished it. The two ! rear rooms were damaged by the fire, the walls, ceiling and rafters being charred, while the water did a fair amount of damage to the furniture. Ail things considered, it was a good, quirk save, and a lucky one. The insurances were not ascertainable last night.
