The Alabin natives, who have been preparing lor some time to revive whaling on tbc old station, suffered a reverse on their first day out on Monday. A large whale was sighted, and the <-rew soon got fast, hint when Hie monster made off the rope fouled the leg of one native, almost tearing one foot off. The whale kept going, and soon the boat capsized and the whole party was in danger of drowning till a rescue launch put out. The injured man, who was sent to the hospital, is likely to lose one foot. CLERK ACQUITTED OF THEFT. WELLINGTON, August 5. At the supreme Court. William Little, temporary clerk, employed in the Labour Department, charged with the theft of £lls 10s. was found not guilty and discharged. ! DUNEDIN WOOL SALES. DUNEDIN, August 5. The last of the series of Dunedin wool sales was held to-day when 10,184 bales were offered, and there was a fairly representative attendance of buyers. There was a decline in prices compared with last Dunedin sale in June, the decline affecting all classes more or less. A Pair proportion of wool w:ts passed in.
