SPECIAL CATTLE

records at ADOINCTON

At Addington stock sale on Wedu.es day, there wore 89 head of special cattle forward, which were penned in the ordinary stock and dairy cattle section. Hedley Bros (Timaru) sold the first Itullock, first prize-taker at the Dunedin show, for £-50. Mr Deter Andeison (Stirling), offered a big red roan, which sold at £4O, and a particularly well finished light roan, sold by Mr Alex Benton (South Clutlia) made £35. Air J. 0. Coop’s white bullock was passed at £SO. The best quality bullock, probably, of the yarding, was a 4) year-old red roan sold by Mr C.Nordquist (Methven) for £7O, the top price of the market. His flesh was put on evenly all over, and he was as squaio as a block; He is also, a frequent pri«ctaker. Nest in price was a particularly well-finished red roan sold by Air W • B. Clarkson for £63. Other satislaetory values were realised, but as t 10 details will show, some of the entry did not bring anything special in the way of prices. The measurements of some of the ug bullocks were rather impressive MiCoop’s white veteran girthed lWt 2in, length 16ft, Hedley l.ios. ■>• (girth) and 15.8 (length), Afi C. >_ <vr quist’s 15ft Gin and 16ft, Air ( larkson’s 15.8 and 14.4, Mr Anderson s roan 15.9 and 15ft, and Mr Ronton s beast 15.9 and 15ft. The special sheep entries took np oi i races, many of the pens, of course, ie ing very lightly filled. Opening prices were disappointing, being only a decree better than ordinary mutton values. When the show wether mutton was offered, however, competition >ocame spirited. Four Down cross pmo wethers.(from Mr B. .len k, "» ' lenay) made £4 Us, »»<! ftro ° £3 10s. Three Sufiolk-Roinuey (r °' s wethers offered by Mr Geo. Gould (Hie Hermitage) made £3 4s, and tl.icc others £3 Is. The pick of tbe jrket comprised a pen of four purebred twotooth Suffolk wethers and one ewe, also offered by Mr Gould. Bidding started £5 per head for the Tour wethers,

and a duel between two local butchers took tlie price along in 10s nods until the previous yard record of .Cl I 10s, secured at the National market two years ago, was passed. The eoni|H?tition proceeded to €l6, at which price the quartet were knocked down, amidst handclapping. Mr Gould then made a prwsent of the ewe u> the buyer. Other outstanding figures were I'li 1 os, secured by Mr D. Grant (Tiniaru). and C<> (Captain Owles, New Brighton).
