Sea-Sickness Cure.

The theory that cotton wool in the ears can arrest and cure sea-sickness appears to be very successful in practice.

A ship’s surgeon, who has been experimenting with it, told a London “Daily Mail” reporter on .Tune sth that during a recent voyage only one passenger under his care failed to respond to the new treatment. “Frankly. I have been astonished at the way in which cotton wool in the egrs acts in these cases,” he said. “In my experience it is mostly completely effective agd almost instantaneous. Sea-sickness is a mysterious business, held by some doctors to he a matter of the stomach by others a matter of the brain. I believe. there is some connexion between it and the inner ear. The cotton wool has to he (lacked into the ears very tightly so that the patient is made completely ‘deaf.’ No otic, lint a doctor should do the packing. Whore it cures, it acts almost at once. ()• my just finished voyage, people who were prostrated by sea-sickness wort able, in five minutes or so, to walk about without feeling at all ill, and were ready to eat ordinary meals.”
