The planet Mercury rose on August ‘ Ist, at 6.12 a.m. ; it is rapidly ap- 1 proaching the sun. with wlicih it will he in conjunction on August 23rd; it will he too close to the sun at the end of till- month to ho visible as an eveninti' planet. Venus rose on August Ist. at 4.29 a.in. and on August loth at 1.43 a.in. ; Mars rises on these dates at 6.43 a.in. and 6.25 a.in. respectively. Jupiter set on August Ist at 8.20 p.m., and on August 15th at 7.39 p.m. Saturn sets on these dates at 8.36 p.m. and 7.41) p.m. respectively. The steady approach (if Jupiter and Saturn towards each other, which has been taking place for some time past, will bo well marked during the present month.
