SOUTH WESTLAND
KISHOP JULIUS’ COMMENTS
(By Telegraph.—Special to Guardian.)
si CHRISTCHURCH, July 29. vSlishop Julius in his recent visit to South Westland found there is good occomnH.caiii.il for tourists at Franz Josef Glacier, hut he speaks in strong terms of the Government’s management of the liot bath. He states they are anything but inviting and to obtain a bathful "of tepid water, half an hour’s pumping is necessary. The residents have asked the Government to improve the conditions, but the Government refused on the grounds that they have no funds for the purpose at present. It is stated that Government will not allow the residents to take improvements in hand, as the baths are public property. A suggestion has been made that a small charge should be made for tlie use of the baths and that an improvement fund should be establish, ed in that way.
