Anderson defeated Laframbers 4—6, 7—5, 6—o, 6—l. OTTAWA, July 23. The Hawkes-Bennett match at Toronto was most sensational. Bennett’s work was most effective, hut Hawkes’ returns which were most powerful, overpowered him. Bennett, knowing Hawkes propensities, smashed the high ones. Tho match was close and tense from beginning till the last ball. OTTAWA, July 23.
The Anderson-Laframbers match offered spectacular features only in the first set, Anderson breaking through Laframbers ironclad defence during the second set with a fine display of cut strokes. Laframbers after that was at Anderson’s mercy, tho latter baffling the Canadian with every variety of stroke.
