The civil aviation authorities have prohibited Briggs’ flight from Australia to New Zealand, on the ground that the petrol required would be .‘IOO pounds in excess of the weight allowed for commercial purposes. Briggs hopes to secure a machine, which will satisfy regulations and realise his ambition to be the first to fly to New Zealand.

in the Senate the Minister for Repatriation, Mr Milieu explained the appointment of Captain Toit, Deputy Commissioner for War Service Homes in Victoria had Iteen terminated in consequence of the preferential treatment of himself in connection with blocks of land purchased for soldiers homes; also for the late senior inspector of woyks and tliei purchase of other lands for his father-in-law and their relatives without first obtaining the customary reports.

In :i case wherein the licensee of a wine bar was prosecuted for selling liquor after six o’clock, the Magistrate ruled that no offence was committed and that all publicans were empowered io keep onon till eleven o'clock for the sale of liquor, as the referendum provided for in the Act had not boon taken.
