LOCAL BODY LOANS

WELLINGTON. July 19

Sir Francis 801 l (Acting Finance .Minister) interviewed by the "Times’ - represontuluo regarding the alleged embargo upon putting State guaranteed local body loans in tlie London market. “The Government,” said the .Minister, “is not preventing local bodies going upon the London market for loans, but cannot give any further State Guarantees. Where, however, any promise has been made of any State guarantee aiitei;dent to the present position arising, (’ State Guarantee will he given, hut cannot he given in respect ol any future loans. State Guarantees are limited to a very small amount each year, and though that limit has been extended the applications are far in excess of the extended limit.

ROBBERY AT DAYBREAK

HAMILTON, July 29

An impudent burglary occurred just before seven this morning, when a man broke the window of M. Kissoii’s and scooped from the racks a number of gold watches and chains, valued at £UM). He then decamped. The incident was seen hv young ladies living opposite, who rang up the police, hut when the latter arrived the thief had disappeared. The description they gate tallies with a man who came into town on Saturday with three others, and wlm did not return to the hoardinghouse this morning.

ARBITRATION COURT

DUNEDIN, July 20,

The Arbitration Court sat this morning in the Otago drivers’ dispute. There was a complete recommendation on a Dominion basis, the only question left being whether Southland employers should be included, to save a. separate citation. The Court reserved tho point as to whether there be one or two awards.

A GIRL FIRE RAISER

DUNEDIN, July 20,

A young girl pleaded guilty to incendiarism- at Mosgiel district high school and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence, the Salvation Army agreeing to take charge of her meantime.
