SHIPPING BOARD MUDDLE

Mr Lasker (Cliairman of United States Shipping Board) informed Mr Harding that the grossest incompetence, negligence and irresponsibility attended the conduct or the Shipping Board’s affairs. Last year’s losses totalled .‘ISO million dollars. The books are in such a deplorable condition that the losses will probably continue for another six months, before they can be stopped. There is no record of six thousand voyages which the Board’s vessels made. He declared he will ask Congress to appropriate three hundred millions for the coming year.

Ex-Secretary Houston has revealed a letter written by Mr Wilson to Hon Lloyd George pointing out that United States was not prepared to remit any part of the British debt to United States ; adding that the refunding of the debt will do more to strengthen the relation between United States and Britain than any other course of dealing with the same.
