SERA'ICE ON GALLIPOLI

A number of English and Australian ladies attended the commemoration service held at Gallipoli on Anzac Day This is the third annual service held on Anzac Dench, hut the first at which Indies have been present. Lieut.-C’ol-G E Hughes, who is in command of the Imperial War Graves Commission, has supplied some details of the day’s events. The whole of the British personnel from the War Graves Commission. together with representatives of hoth the Naw and Army from Chnnak set out from Kelia in the morning and were joined on the other side of the | Peninsula by the party from HisUnjmtvV sloop Bryony, which had General Sir \ Hnnter-Weston on hoard. The ship had steamed round in the early morn'tig depositing wreaths at the various landings. A large ooneref-o sin l -, which vas once part of a wall for the pi-cation of the water tanks, draped with the Union Jack. New Zealand, and Australian flags, served as an altar. Jest prior to- the commencement of the service, a small procession was seen approaching. It was headed by two little Greek children hearing Greek, Australian. and English flags, and at the rear there followed the Greek priest, who joined' the congregation assembled round. A chaplain of the Hampshire Regiment conducted the service, after which General Sir A Hnnter-Weston. Commander of the old 29th. Division, placed before the altar wreaths from

the jjarrison at Clianak, the Greek community of Mnndos, and the Royal Navy the last mentioned in the form of a cross, composed of wild flowers leathered

on and around the Aaizne battlefields. After General Hunter-AVeston, bed paid a tribute to the memory of the fallen, the whole party returned round the Peninsula in the warship.
