AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION SYDNEY, July 13. The Rugby League decided that the referee shall put the ball in the scrums, as from July 16th. It is hoped that ■liree present breaches will thus be eliminated, namely: The half-back not going behind bis pack ; not fairly placing t-lic ball in the pack and feinting putting the ball in the pack. THE SPRINGBOKS. WANGANUI, July 13. The Springboks opened their New Zealand tour this afternoon when they defeated Wangan.ui by 11 to six. The game was hard, fought, principally between the forwards where the Africans had the decided advantage in weight which they used with good effect. In the open play the Wanganui forwards more than held their own, their dribbling rushes being very fine. In the line out play the visitors had much the better of the deal and this enabled them to start most of their rushes.

The local back division was equally as good as the visitors, but got very few opportunities to indulge in passing rushes. It is only fair to add that after tho first quarter of an hour the visitors played with only 14 men.
