AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION. FRENCH COMMENT. LONDON, July 12. The ‘•Times” Paris correspondent states: ‘The French newspapers dismiss President Harding’s proposal in terms of general approbation, though it is felt that some reservation is necessary as regards land armaments.” “Ye Temps” declares it limits the risk of a European war. The newspaper “Liberte,” while favourable, regards the proposal as a death blow to the League of Nations. THE POPE PLEASED. (Received This Day at 10(15 a.m.) * ROME, July 13 The “Observer” in a semi-official note, warmly congratulates Mr Harding upon taking action similar to the Pope, in August 1917. The paper adds that the Pope experienced the liveliest pleasure in seeing his prayers realised under America’s powerful initiative.
