BOWLING.

■+*** SOUTH AFRICAN TEAM FOR N.Z. PIETERMARITZBURG, May 30. The executive of tlie South African Bowling Association lias fully considered the proposal to send a bowling team to tour New Zealand, with the result that it has placed certain recommendations before all affiliated clubs with a view of getting opinions from them as to the best course to adopt. Tlie executive suggests that the team should consist of four rinks, twenty players in all, (final selection to rest with the executive). It is estimated that the cost of the tour will approximately bo £3OO per man, making a total of £6OOO for twenty men. If the matter is financed' entirely by club subscribers, taking say sixty clubs, the cost will then average approximately £IOO per clnb. In the event of a club subscribing as suggested it should have the right of nominating one player, and, in the event of such nominations being received, a final selection would have to b e made to reduce the number of players to twenty. It is considered hy the executive that if the team is seiiX to New Zealand it should not consist only of players wfio are willing and able to pfiy their own expenses, hut that it must he a team representative of South Africa and capable of upholding the traditions of the gafne and 1 particularly the skill of the bowlers of Austral Africa.

It is estimated that the tour in New Zealand would occupy about nine weeks. This would necessitate a. total absence from South Africa on the part of tho players of from four to five months. The general opinion in South African bowling circles is that it would he unfortunate were the proposal to fall through now that it has got so far, but the whole question is really a financial one.
