Messrs AVilson and Canham Ltd., of l Auckland, exporters of hides, skins, and frozen produce etc., are opening a branch office at Greymouth and make an announcement thereon in this issue At a meeting of the executive of the Canterbury Rugby Union on Wednesday it was mentioned that the prices for admission to the match against the Springboks were fixed by the New Zealand Rugby Union at 2s for the embankment, and 3s or more additional for the stand. Members pointed out that 5s was a somewhat excessive charge, especially when it was considered that another 2s would he charged for reserved seats. The president (Mr S. F. AVilson) said that it should he remembered that the tour of the South African team would entail heavy expense. It was estimated that the cost of the tour would amount o £IB,OO0 #1 and the assembling of the New Zealand team would cost an additional £1500; altogether the visit of South Africans would involve the expenditure of a sum of approximately £15,000. —“Press.”
The aeroplane DH9, with a 240 horse, power Siddeley “Puma” engine, the third machine for the Blenheim mail service, is now under construction by Captain Euan Dickson and bis staff, the other two machines being complete, and waiting for the service to commence. One of the two is a limousine, and the other is an open tourer. Each of the three ’planes will accommodate three passengers, besides the pilot. The limousine is well fitted up with upholstered armchairs. The cabin inside is painted white, and relieved with stained framework. The front of the cabin is in the form of an instrument hoard for the information and interest of passengers, and tliere is also a collapsible writing table. There are six windows on either side of the cabin, two to each passenger.
It is announced that a further sum from the Imperial AVar Canteen Fund is to be distributed amongst the seve ral Dominions in proprtion to the number of their men serving during tin war'. The lAuWtralian AVar Canteen Fund has just received its first dividend from the Imperial AVar Canteen Fund. But New Zealand received her first portion (£18,000) some time ago. This made up the New Zealand AA'ar Canteen Fund to roughly £BO.OOO. D is anticipated that the additional dividend now announced will amount in the case of this Dominion to something in the neighbourhood of £30,000, thus bringing the total fund up to some £IIO,OOO.
