The monthly meeting of the Execui live of the Chamber was held at the ■ County Office last evening at 7.d() (/clock-. Present: Messrs 0. Perry (President) in the chair, B. Wild. J. J. . Mclntosh, J. Ritchie and 1). ,1. Evans. An apology was tendered for the absence of Mr Butler absent in Christchurch.
The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed, and the outward correspondence approved. 1 NAY ARP COR RESPOND ENCE.
From Mon. J. G. Coates, Minister of Public 'Works, acknowledging copy of appreciative letter from President of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce in regard to the scenic attractions of the southern district of 'Westland, and stating the representations in regard to the bridging of the large rivers would have careful consideration. —Received. From Tourist Minister on same suiliect and trusting the visit would he the means of inducing many nm Auckland residents to turn their attention to the scenic attractions of Westland, of which the Hon. Minister was well aware. - Received. From Canto rliun’, Auckland and ’Wanganui Chambers of Commerce acknowledging letter in regard to the proposed extension of the licensing polls to nine years (instead of three) in order to give more security to licensees to provide additional and more convenient accommodation for travellers hid indicating that as the subject was a political question the matter hardly came before the scope, of the Chambers. - Received; Comment passed by members in receiving the correspondence was to the effect that all public matters dealt with hy Chambers of Commerce had their political aspect and would he subect to veto so far as discussion was concerned, if the dictum raised in
the present instance was locally applied. Mr Wild originator of the proposed amendment to the licensing law, said lie was satisfied with the result which would attend the matter by the ventilation of the subject through the various Chambers of the Dominion.
| From Resident Engineer, Grey mouth, stating everything possible was la in; done to expedite the building of the Little Wanganui bridge.- Received; The Hon. Secretary reported he had discussed the matter over the telephone that day with Air Gillies who gave an assurance that no time was being lost in calling for tendem for the work. Specifications were now practically read, and provided for two spans of the structuic on the north side being erected hy the contractor first and then moving the plant to the south side where the remainder of the structure would lie put ; n hand. The Department would have the right to build temporary wooden approaches to the erected spans to seive is a crossing for traffic, pending the building of the complete bridge. The question of a local contribution to assist with the temporary approaches had been referred to Head Office, but a rejply was not available so tar. ft vas resolved to acknowledge Mr Ci 1 - lies’ action in the matter with a letter of appreciation.
From Same stating tenders for W>itangi bridge would be invited in due course, as it was expected the difficulty in connection with the supply if timber for this bridge would he overcwjne shortly.—Received • with thanks.
From Same replying the Assistant Engineer was now completing a survey in the Wataros, district after which ic would proceed to Bruce Bay to la.' iff the proposed landing there at the Flower I’ot.- Received with expressions if satisfaction.
From Westland County Council - ng a vote of Tib for the Otira mail on-ice would lie paid in due course.

From Chief Postmaster, acknow'edging letter of complaint regarding forwarding of mail matter and stating matter would receive immediate attention.—Received.
From Wellington Chamber of Commerce forwarding copy of quarterly journal for May.—Received. From Lang, Kron and Mathinson, Hamburg-, forwarding catalogues of chemical products for distribution.--Re-p eeivod. GENERAL. Air Ritchie, treasurer, reported the payment of £ls subsidy by the Hokitika. Borough Council for the Otira motor mail service. The credit balance in the bank now was £29 9s. (id. An account for £3 for printing etc. was passed for payment. Mr Wild referred to the manner in which the Health Department was carrying out the inspection duties and referred to the extravagant rost being 1 imposed on the people. The matter was discussed at some length from various points of view, hut no resolution being reached the matter dropped. The meeting concluded at 9 p.m.
