The Social Committee of the Seaview Mental Hospital held their fourth monthly staff dance on Monday night. The “Little Theatre” was prettily decorated with floral streamers and greenery, and over the stage the “Cetwl Mile Failte” (a hundred thousand welcomes) hen mod its joyous greeting to the large crowd present. The splendid work of the staff orchestra—Nurse Macfarlane (piano), and Attendants Martini (cornet) and Dawson (pieolo) was generous lv supplemented by ‘extras’ from Misses Scott, Shadholt and Giese; and Mr Simpson was the M.C. The Chairman welcomed “home” the matron and Nurse Macfarlane, and paid a glowing tribute to their unselfish enthusiasm. The recent patients’ entertainment provided by Mr and Mrs Staveley and party was a topic of eloquent praise in Seaview; and the Chairman expressed the admiration of the staff and tho appreciation of the patients. Ti:c death took place at Blakelown, of Mrs Blake, wife of Mr F. Blake, and the second eldest daughter of Mrs Coburn senr) and the late W. G. Coburn. Deceased was a native of Greymouth, and was in her 47th year.

An officer of the Lands Drainage Department has now gone south to make a survey of the La Fontaine lower, swamp at Hari Hari. It is expected that later Mr Thomson, Chief Drainage Engineer, will visit the district, and go into proposals for a scheme to complete the drainage of the area referred to.

At the fortnightly meeting of the West Coast Rugby Union last evening, the Westland Suit-Union wrote re train arrangements for the Springbok-Buller-West Const match. It was decided that arrangements he made to suit the West ('oast people. The Bulled Rugby Union wrote-accepting July Hi as the date for the West Coast-Bullor match at Westport. They also nominated three referees, Mr Dunn being accepted.
