JUMBLE SALE AT KOKATAHI.
The jumble sale in aid of the erection of a Catholic Church at Ivokatahi was held in the Longford Hall on Wednesday last. There was a large attendance of all the settlers and visitors from town. Mr JL Ward (County Chairman) in opening the function, thanked the member for the Kokatahi Hiding foi an invitation to attend and open the proceedings. He congratulated aU concerned on their efforts in such a good cause. It was a well-known fact that those engaged in the dairy industry had to work 7 days in every week, but in the near future when the new church was erected the Sunday could be more easily observed. In declaring the sale open, Mr Ward complimented all concerned on the display and wished them every success. Th 0 sale continued throughout the afternoon and into the evening. There was then a fresh influx of visitors from Hokitika. At about 9 p.m. Mr W. Jeffries commenced a busy auction sale and all remaining goods were disposed of at satisfactory rates.
Later in the evening, Mr Jeffries speaking on behalf of the committee announced that from a rough calculation it was found that the fine sum of £l5O had been collected that (lay. This was an excellent result and he wished to personally thank every resident of Kokatahi and Koiterangi for their willing assistance. The committee had not met with a, single refusal in those districts. He also thought a debt of gratitude was due To Mrs Wallace and Miss Mackinnon, the joint secretaries, and to the ladies in charge of the stall. He also thanked Airs Graham for the free use of the hall, and the musicians for their fine programme of dance music given without payment, and lastly eoeli and every one who had assisted in bringing about tlie success. Mr L. H. Morel (Chairman of the Committee) thanked Mr Jeffries for his assistance and conveyed to all concerned tlie Committee’s appreciation.
Supper was "then served after which dancing was kep£ up until th<> small hours. The musicians were Mrs W. Morris and Miss M. Gie.se (piano), Mr Christensen (cornet) and Mr J. W. Kelly (violin). Messrs J. McCormack and H. Meharr.v had charge of the floor.
