OBITUARY

The deceased gentleman was a son of the late Air C. \Y. Purchas of New Brighton, and was born at Boss, Herefordshire, England, m 1860. He received his primary education at Hereford Cathedral School and mine to New X-aland in 1879. when he matriculati d in the Cniversity of New Zealand and won a junior scholarship : two years later he obtained a senior scholarship. He graduated B.A. in 188?!. and M. A. in 1881, with third-class honours . in !. nguages. He was ardaiimd deacon by the late Bishop Harper in 1881. and a; pointed curate at St. AlirhaoPs.
