An official statement regarding the Coal Conference reports Evan Williams informed the Premier they had reached an agreement with the miners which he hoped would to-morrow be put into definite form, with all the differences settled, but without the Government assistance they could not apply the agreement to actual practice. L herofore we associate ourselves with the millers arid ask Government to reconsider the position regarding the ten millions. If Government will help til the end of September it is arranged that the period begins on Ist. October and runs definitely for a year, subject thereafter to three months notice, thus not terminating before Decembei 15.2-. Mr Hodges confirmed the statement and added ‘‘To get the quickest resumption of work we must have the clearest statement to place before our people. If the ten millions are not restored, the settlement outlined cannot be reached.’’ Hotl.- LlOyd G'Oorge said: “There is undoubtedly a most serious opposition to the ten millions.
