TKLL-TA LK CANDLE. LONDON, April 26. Exjrert invest igators from Scotland Yard were expected at Oaerleon (Monmouthshire) yesterday to inquire into i.t.lie murder of the old man ‘‘Billy” ! Richards in his lonely cottage, j Captain Leonard, an old friend, was one of the last to,see him alive. On Thursday night he had walked up to the cottage, knowing that the old man was lonely, and had spent an hour with him. Captain Leonard noticed that the candle in the kitchen where he sat had burned down to about an inch. When the house was entered on Sunday mottling the candle had burned out. From these indications it is believed that the old man was in bed on Thursduv night when he was disturbed by a sound in the garden. Keating chicken thieves, lit* probably went downstairs dressed in a shirt, trousers, and slippers and opened his front door. The murderer must have remained hidden in th(> dark until his victim appeared, when he struck him on the back of the head with an old garden spade so fiercely that the blade was broken from the handle.
