Two coastal steamers, the Eitzroy, and Our Jack, have been lost, and a heavy l,oss of life is feared. The Eitzroy foundered off Cape Hawke with MO aboard of a crew and passengers. Three bodies have been washed ashore. Our Jack foundered at Port Stephens, Nine men were rescued h.v the llrutulah. Boisterous seas prevailed on the north coast on Saturday and Sunday, southeast winds reaching the force of it gale. THE LOST STEAMERS. SYDNEY, June 27. Owing to the stormy conditions on th. North Coast aml consequent telegraphic delays, details of the wrecks am meagre. Our Jack was a small cargo boat, in charge of Captain Eorhes and carried a crew of IM. so that four remain unaccounted for. Three members of the crew of the Eitzroy Ramsay, Jensen and Hansen were washed ashore and leseued. The bodies of two other men, Daley and Garrison, were also washed ashore. It is believed three lifeboats were launched from the Eitzroy. One containing eight persons was recovered abandoned. It is supposed the three, survivors and two dead washed ashore came from this boat. The fate of the other two is unknown. Captain Colvin remained on the bridge of the Eitzroy till the last moment. It is hoped the other two boats escaped, hut owing to the heavy weather were unable to land. Search steamers are out. ANOTHER MAN SAVED. SYDNEY, June 27. A wire from Forster states a fourth member of the crew of the Eitzroy has been saved. Three bodies were washed ashore. There is no further news regarding the Eitzroy’s boats. In the' absence of authentic details, the theory is advanced that, tlie steamers collided in the vicinity of Cape Hawke and drifted apart. One message states the Rrundah took off Our Jack’s crew of nine and others say the crew consisted of l.‘l who took to the boats before the, steamer foundered. Supposedly the Rrundah secured one boat and the other containing four is still missing. Latest reports snv the sen continues rough and searching is difficult.
