ALLIED POLICY. AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION. I LONDON, June 24 Mr Chamberlain in the House of Commons said that as a result of Lord CurGon’s conference with M. Briafld and the Italian Ambassador at Paris, a renewed attempt would be made to terminate hostilities in Asia Minor. The Allied powers made an offer to Greece to intervene. If the latter were not prepared to accept outside intervention, .the responsibility lot a renewal of the struggle must rest with the Hellenic Government. Approval also had been given to a scheme for a progressive withdrawal from the disputed area in Silesia of the German insurgents, leaving the 20,000 allied troops to maintain order.
CHURCH OF SCOTLAND. LONDON, June 23 Jn tho House of Commons, Mr Munvo moved the second reading of the Church of Scotland Bill, which aims at union to terminate ecclesiastical rivalry. Messrs McCallum, Scott and Hogge opposed, and Mr Balfour supported, the second reading, which was carried without a division. DR. ADDISON’S SALARY. (Received This Day at 9.40 a.m.) LONDON, Juno 23. In the Commons, there was an exciting debate on a proposal to reduce the salary of Dr Addison (Minister without portfolio), on the ground that it was paid without consulting the Commons. Hon Lloyd George eulogised Dr Addison’s services and justified the office on the ground of the great strain on Ministers, hut in view of the necessity of economising, lie offered to confine the office to this season. The vote was accordingly reduced to £2500 without division.
