BRITISH LABOUR CRISIS.

MINERS’ GRIM STRUGGLE. AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION LONDON, June 23 The Miners’ Federation and the other unions threatened with wage cuts, confer on Saturday. The miners hope for more support from other workers. In Wales Noah Abiet said coal stocks soon would be exhausted and if the miners stick together they must win. He said “safety” men should be withdrawn from the mines to hasten .the end. A military force of Royal Scots Regiment escorted men working West Gotham mine whom strikers tried to stop. . Exciting scenes were witnessed at Hollybank colliery, in Staffordshire, where 500 miners started work. A big body of strikers attempted to prevent them, but 100 police arrived and guarded the colliery, enabling the 500 to work unmolested, though they were subjected to hostile demonstrations when returning home. STRIKE TROUBLES. (Received This Day at 10.15 a.m.) LONDON, June 24. Engineers and- transporters declined to participate in the conference regarding a general strike, which is doomed. A patched coal peace is likely to be realised. The only practical question now, is how to assist the leaders to persuade the miners to cut their losses. Meanwhile the railways are receiving mysterious extra supplies of coal and resuming many cut services.
