FOOTBALL

On Saturday afternoon the West Coast Rugby Union’s team and the Westland sub-Union team meet on Cass Square. The teams selected are fully representative of the two districts and a capital game should result. The Westland team has been somewhat altered from that which played Inangahua subunion on Saturday last at Greymouth and it is undoubtedly a more solid combination. The backs generally tackle determinedly and their success in this department will have a big | say in the final result on Saturday afternoon, as the only way to stop opposing passing runs is solid determined tackling, each man bringing down his opponent. The forwards are a solid lot I and gave a good display last Saturday which they should improve upon in j Saturday’s ga.'me. The last match should assist to give the whole team' more combination, which was the weakest part of their play. If the forwards play np to last week’s form and the alteration in the backs make the improvement that is hoped for, the local team should make a good showing. Supporters of the northern team are very confident of success going their way. They have a good' heavy pack rind a set of fast backs who will endeavour to make the game open, so that a good fast exposition should result. It is expected that a large crowd, reminiscent of old football days, will travel down from Greymouth to witness the game. WESTLAND SUB-UNTON. The weekly meeting of the above was held last evening.
