The populations of the chief boroughs, with their suburban areas, are recorded as follows: Wanganui 23,529 Invercargill 19,058 Napier 16,931 Palmerston North 16,888 Timaru 15,413 Gisborne 14,521 New Plymouth .. 12,643 Nelson 10,632 During the month of May the arrivals in New Zealand exceeded the departures by 189.
