I 1 COURSE OF PROCEEDINGS. 1 AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION. j I << Received This Day at 8 a.in.) LONDON, June IS. Tlie first meeting of the Imperial f Conference will not he productive. The order of business and method of procedure promises to provide discussion j for practically the whole day and the I agenda may have many subjects added I that never will be referred to later. Subjects listed so far are—Anglo-Jap- | anese Treaty renewal, foreign policy, Empire naval and military defence, communications, choosing official name, question of permanent secretariat, position of Indians in colonies and dominions, tariffs and affecting dominions and Britain, immigration and preliminary arrangements for constitutional
conference next year. It is known the British and Australian delegates are anxious to put naval defence in the forefront on the buisness paper, but some other dominion representatives are just as determined it should be kept in the background an 1 sidetracked if possible.
Indications are that the Japanese Treaty will he dealt with first. Probably the whole of this w’eek’s debating time will he taken up with on it. One tiling How considered certain is that the white Australia policy will be accepted as axiomatic. Hon Lloyd George will deliver an address of welcome. He will preside throughout, supported by Hon A. Chamberlain and other Ministers. The sitting is expected to he confined to three days a week, with lio set speeches and no verbatim record will he -kept of the discussion, hut a summary will he prepared by special committee each day. This will not lie circulated until all the delegates agree to it as approved and correct.
