CRUSOE’S ISLAND
NE WTO RE, April 20
Boys and their fathers—will be interested in the scheme of the Chilian Government to turn Juan Fernandez, popularly known as “Robinson Crusoe's Island,” into a national park, and to provide it with caves, parrots, goats, and a Man Friday, just as it was when Crusoe was ship-wrecked there more than 200 years ago. The announcement of this scheme has stirred up the old controversy as to where Robinson Crusoe’s Island really lies. According to the Tribune of This city, Tobago, a tiny island in the Caribbean Sea, deserves the title. It is nlso pointed but that Alexander Selkirk lived on .Tuan Fernandez from 1704 to 1709, and that Defoe based his story on Selkirk’s adventures. Selkirk’s story, however differs from Robinson Crusoe’s in many details. Still it bears a close resemblance to its main feature*.
