SAFE’S HIDDEN GUN.
NEW YORK, April 20. An explosive trap'set in an attempt to catch a thief who had twice robbed the safe at the offices of a large garage firm in 54th street yesterday severely wounded one of the partners, against whom a charge has been preferred brother members of the firm. The trap was so arranged that on an attempt being made to open the o drawer of the safe a charge of buckshot would be fired across the front of the safe from a concealed gun. Early yesterday morning the night watchman, who knew of the existence of the trap, heard an explosion in the office and, on going to investigate, found blood spattered over the floor, lmt no other trace of anyone. An hour later a man was admitted to the Bellevue Hospital suffering from buckshot wounds in the face and chest. The patient was shortly afterwards seen by detectives, whom lie told that he had received the injuries when lie picked up a parcel in the street which exploded. After the head of the garage company had identified him, he was arrested.
