AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION. LttNDON, June 11. Kirkwood has had a great triumph in reaching the golf final, in which lie will oppose the long-hitting Abe Mitchell, who defeated Ockcndcn six up and five to plh-y. Playing 'in the semi-final with Benouf, Kirkwood gained a lead of three holes in the first round, but though ho putted .brilliantly lie .did not hold that load. He holed with a two-yard-er for a two at the fifth hole with a fifteen ynrder at the tenth, and a twenty-yarder at the eighteenth. Yet he took three putts on 'three of the greens, and lost each, so lie was brought back to one. Perhaps this was because ho played a little too easily. Nevertheless lie played with supreme confidence and won three up and two to play. Interest was sustained to the last stroke, when Kirkwood was accorded an ovation. His opponent played well throughout. Kirkwood opened the afternoon round by losing the first two holes. He regained one on the next, and halved the fourth. Then he lost the fifth, taking three putts. Halves followed. Renouf won the ninth with a brilliant three. Renouf made his only serious mistake in the tenth, and picked up. Kirkwood reached* this green in two. At the eleventh Kirkwood holed with a difficult putt for a half in three. He took three putts at the next, and only halved. He won the eleventh with a good four. Renouf, holing from fourteen yards for two, this reduced Kirkwood’s lead by one. With four to go, Kirkwood won the next, hut an impossible stymie at the sixteenth prevented him from holing. At the seventeenth Kirkwood played perfectly, though ho was not so brilliant as in the second round, but had the match fairly safe throughout.
