(Received This Day at 12.20 p.m.) LONDON, June 9. Heyivood bye-election vice Mr Illingworth resulted: Walter Hall (Labour) 13,530 elected. Colonel England (Coalitionist) 13,125. Bickstone (Liberal) 5,751. IN THE COMMONS. (Received this day at 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, June 9. In the Commons, replying to a question, the Under-Secretary for the Colonies said ho had no information whatever that Australia had passed reciprocal legislation on the subject of the Maintenance of Order Act. A suggestion urging such legislation to the Imperial Conference in view of the hardship caused to wives deserted in United Kingdom by Australian soldiers, would be considered. PORT OF LONDON. * (Received this day at 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, June 10. Lord Devonport formally opened the Port of London authorities new jetty at Tilbury, a depth of thirty feet enabling vessels to discharge without entering the dock. It is announced a Bill will shortly be presented to 'Parliament authorising the construction of a floating passengers tendering stage at Tilbury, equal to those at Liverpool, to allow passengers to embark and disembark alongside the railway station.
IRISH REPUBLIC AND RUSSIA
(Received This Dav at 12.25 p.m.) LONDON, July 10.
A draft agreement between the Irish Reublican and Russian Government was signed at Dublin and published in a White Paper. It shows each agreed to promote world-wide recognition of each others’ sovreignity, mutual trade, with a percentage of arms and munitions for usp against the enemies of either. The Irish office adds that McCartan, a Sinn Fein Commoner in Russia will act as diplomatic representative of the Irish Republic.
