QUARTZ MINING AWARD.
REEETON, June 8. The Reef-ton mining companies Rave entered into an industrial award for one year with the Miners Union on the same terms as the last award, with a further concession granted to the men of six hours’ pay for four hours, conSjtitutting the Saturday shift. The terms of the new agreement have been submitted to the Waiuta and Big Rover branches which have been accepted by them, and the agreement will now be signed forthwith. Mr Fagan, General Secretary, states the concession has been received with general satisfaction by the miners, it being a recognition by the employers of the principle of payment for Saturday half holiday, lteefton is the first miners union in the Dominion to gtiili the recognition of Saturday half-holiday. GUILTY OF MANSLAUGHTER. NAPIER, June 8. George Dunn, aliad George Burt, was found guilty of manslaughter of Marion Baird, aged 71, at' Hastings on April 22nd. Evidence disclosed that Dunn accompanied the lady home, dragged her into a garden and raped her. In the struggle she succumbed to heart failure. Sentence will be delivered tO-morrow.
