HOKITIKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE
The Committee met last evening at 7.30 o’clock. Present Messrs W. IT. Shannon (Chairman), Aitken, Richards, Bruce, Lloyd, Stevenson, King, Preston (Secretary), and Rev Purchas. i The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Miss Laycock, resigning position as assistant in Secondary Department.—Received and accepted with regret, members expressing appreciation of the excellent work done in the school by the retiring teacher. It was resolved to convey an expression of appreciation and good wishes by letter. From Board, stating that it was necessary to restrict expenditure as much as possible at the present time. Received. From Same, stating only one application had been received as third assistl ant. —Received; application since vith- * drawn. It was stated Miss Sterling of
Blackball was at present temporarily filling the position. From Teacher, South Spit, reporting, average attendance as 15 and roll of 17 ; askinn- for repairs to range.— Received. From Rector (Mr Irvine) reporting average attendance, primary 283, secondary 59, total 342, out of a roll number of 364; stating the Board’s Inspector and Drill Instructors bad visited the school; enclosing resignation of Miss Laycock, assistant in secondary school, expressing regret and paying a warm tribute to the excellent work done by the retiring teacher.—Received. ’ The Visiting Committee (Messrs Aitken and Bruce) reported on a number of small matters requiring attention.— Received. Some .small accounts were passed tor
payment. The Chairman reported the result ot the deputation that waited on the Hon Mr Anderson, in reference to an amendment to the Hokitika High School Roaid Act. —Received and approved. Messrs Lloyd and King were appointed visitors for the month. The Committee rose at 8.20 p.m.
