A report on. the effects of the magnetic storm of May 14tli-17tli, as recorded at the Christchurch magnetic observatory, lias been received from the director, Mr H. F. Skey, by the Department of Lands and Survey.' The report is too technical to he of value, except to specialists, but it contains reference to a curious fact. The big disturbances registered by the instruments at the conservatory commenced suddenly at 1.38 a.in. on May 11th. Mr Ske.v reports that a very pronounced disturbance of the magnetic force, having a sudden commencement very similar to that- of May 14th, was recorded at 2.5 a.m. on April 19th. The interesting point about these events is that the interval between them was 24.94 days, or exactly the period of the absolute rotation of the sun’s equatorial belt.
