The deputation did not receive a very warm reception. A sale of business property in the heart of the city of Christchurch was effected on Tuesday at a very big price: Tlie attorneys of Lieut-Colonel H. C. 1 ulkeley, of London, sold the property known as Loasby’s Corner, with a frontage of 46ft on Colombo street, and a frontage of 63ft on Cashel street. Tlie purchaser was Air A)’. F. McArthur, of .Messrs Loas.by and Co., and the price paid was £30,000. The price of the Colombo street frontage works out at £652 a foot. At Addington stock sales on Wednesday there was a medium entry and a good demand for all classes. Prices showed an advance on last week’s rates. Values were:—Choppers £3 10s to L'7, baeoners C 4 10s to £5 ss, heavy haveners, £5 10s to £6, extra heavy haveners to C 6 (is, average price per lb, 7‘d, porkers 55s to 655, heavy porkers 70s to 80s, average price per lb 10d to IO.Jd. A small' entry of store pigs was forward and there was a very firm demand. Values were as follows:—Best stores £’2 10s to £2 18s, medium stores £2 to C2 Bs, small stores £1 2s to Cl 4s, weaners 9s (id to 16s, sows in pig to £5 12s 6d.
Air G. A. Wood, A1.8.C., who is chairman of the committee controlling the public library, including the local museum, has visited Christchurch late, ly. While there he was fortunate in securing a very interesting model of Gallipoli peninsula—or (rather the par* tion of it over which the Anzacs operated. The model is one of two specially made by Col. Fenwick and is done to scale. It is said to be a very accurate presentation of the location of t*e great enactments by our troops. This model will be placed shortly in the museum. Mr Wood lias also purchased about a score of other exhibits for the museum including a number of mounted birds and insect's as well as other interesting trophies. These exhibits will be on view shortly, and will add greatly to the attractions of the local museum. Afr Wood is to .be congratulated on his interest in tbc work which has great educative value, for the exhibits cannot fail to interest and instruct.

]\l> 15. AYiird County Chairman visited Ross to-day in company with the Hon. Minister of Mines. The municipal hand will render a mimical programing on Cass Square tomorrow afternoon commencing at 3 o’clock sharp; Mails from Wellington l>y the ferry steamer connected at Christchurch with the West Coast express this morning, after being sent on by motor cars.
Mr Seddon M.P., who went north with the Minister of Mines to-day, will return to Hokitika on Monday to attend to some public matters here, afterwards going back to Greyniouth.
On Wednesday afternoon the Public Servants of Hokitika met to hid farewell to Mr J. Stapleton of thei Stamps Department on the occasion of his departure for Christchurch where he will continue his duties in the Christchurch office. After the customary speeches Mr Stapleton was presented with a handsome. travelling bag. Mr Stapleton suitably replied and lie left with the well-wishes of all.
The re-opening of the Kanieri bridge across the Hokitika river was the subject of urgent representations to the Minister of Mines last evening. Mr K. A. Wells pointed out in strong terms the necessity for the opening of the bridge for light traffic, and his advocacy for speedy attention won from the Minister a promise that he would urge the Hon Mr Coates to give most favourable and prompt attention to the request.
At the deputation to the Minister of Mines last evening Mr J. Ritchie, in urging the speedy commencement of the Bruce Bay landing, stated that Bruce Bay was to South Westland what Timaru was to South Canterbury, though on not quite so large a scale. In th J . course of the discussion Mr Jeffries made ft very spirited appeal to the Minister for speedy attention to the requests for Little Wanganui bridge anl the Bruce Ray Landing, two works which were of a most urgent nature The people of South Westland deserve d every encouragement at the hands of the present and any Government, a statement which won hearty endorsement of the Minister.
A meeting of the Motor Ambulance Committee was held in the Hospital Board Rooms on Wednesday evening last. Present: Messrs Lloyd (Chair), Thompson, West, Rev Mr Jack. Mrs Woods, Misses Bruce and Moore (Joint lion, secretaries). Mr West reported that owing to the slump in the timber trryde contributions from the 'mills could tiot be expected in tho meantime, and it was resolved to withdraw the lists from the mills till conditions become normal. Various matters relating to the fund were discussed and it was resolved to thank collectors in the country districts for their generous assistance. The next meeting was lixec! tor Wednesday June 23th.
